Position Summary
The Wiley Publishing Platform drives the creation, management, discovery, and delivery of content assets that ultimately form part of the products and services sold across all Wiley business units. The Platform is intended to be modular so that any of its services can be used independently and in any combination, leveraging Enterprise services where appropriate, and exposing its services for use across the Enterprise.
The Solution Architect is responsible for defining and developing individual solutions within this ecosystem, and for ensuring that these are well-defined, unique, modular, adequately documented, efficiently deployed, perform efficiently, meet current business needs, and anticipate future business needs without becoming over engineered. These solutions must drive overall simplification, in particular around business processes, and look to automation wherever possible.
As such, the Solution Architect is responsible for coordinating with other solution architects and works directly with development and deployment teams within Wiley Product Technology.
Essential Accountabilities
• Defines and executes solutions; influences the architecture roadmap for projects related to the Wiley Publishing Platform;
• Helps mature the solution architecture practice, and maintains touchpoints to businesses and technology organizations throughout Wiley;
• Ensures alignment of solutions with project and Platform business objectives;
• Complies with and maintains alignment with the Wiley technology roadmap and Wiley enterprise technology standards;
• Ensures standardization, simplification and transformation of the Wiley application portfolio by developing solutions that will progress the Wiley roadmap;
• Performs and coordinates research into appropriate technologies and solutions to anticipate and meet changing technological and business needs;
• Leads the architecture review of solutions both within the Platform and with peers in enterprise architecture;
• Analyze business features, define applicable solution patterns, push to redefine business features that conflict with longer-term business and technology strategy;
• Ensure all individual solution architecture artifacts are documented and maintained to facilitate common knowledge and standardization;
• Help foster a culture of technical excellence and innovation across the IT community.
Requirements
Education:
• Either degree in Computer Science, engineering or related field, or comparable experience in software development.
Prior Experience:
• 5+ years of prior experience in software development in multiple roles; 2+ years in a multi-entity, complex, and distributed environment.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Characteristics:
• A strong, pragmatic approach to leading architecture and developing effective solutions. Deep knowledge of more than one software technology stack, in particular around the storage and manipulation of content and data. Design and adoption of architectural patterns in an enterprise setting;
• Desirable: SOA, storage (RDBMS, XML, Document-based), API stacks (REST, linked data JVM), front-end Web frameworks (React, NodeJS, …), distributed architectures and cloud-based deployments, machine learning;
• Hands-on experience of data design and implementation for at least one Content Management System, specifically Alfresco CMS.
