Summary:
This organisation work with leading blue-chip to SME's in their industry sector are continuing to build themselves a phenomenal reputation for creating complicated software applications. This is an opportunity to join a very software-focused team: developers who are excited about using the best Open Source technologies to create simple solutions for complex problems. The role is predominantly Java focused but leans into other JVM languages, especially Scala - the company currently are developing bespoke applications using Scala so this position offers the opportunity to work commercially within the Functional programming area.
Role and Responsibilities:
•Be involved at all stages of the design and development of innovative and highly robust software applications
•Add to the ethos of a vibrant young technology company with innovation, hard-work and a true passion for technology
•Work on a range of tools using a diverse technology stack and be heavily involved with new projects involving functional programming
•As part of a small but completely software-focused company, help to decide upon technical strategy and technology choice through R&D and prototyping
Skills Required:
•Excellent software engineering skills in Java (predominantly CoreJava)
•A strong Computer Science knowledge and background (Object Oriented principles, algorithms, distributed systems, low latency, concurrency, graph & string theory, machine learning, big-O notation etc. all highly desirable)
•Understanding/experience of other Object Oriented languages would be beneficial (C#, C++, Python etc but not essential.
•Any experience in Functional Programming (Scala)
•A true passion for technology: ideally with some demonstrable experience of personal projects (e.g. Github or StackOverflow)
•An excellent academic track record with a BSc minimum (2.1 or above) in a computing, scientific, mathematical or engineering discipline. MScs and PhDs preferred.
•Ideally a strong knowledge of XML / XSLT / Xpath / XQuery
•Strong communication skills
